How to read this table
Prices are annual unless noted, in U.S. dollars, for adult anglers aged 16–64. Color coding compares each cell against the 50-state average for that column. Short-term durations vary by state — 1-day, 3-day, 7-day — and the cheapest available nonresident short-term option is shown. Most states also require add-on stamps (trout, salmon, habitat, conservation) which are noted but not bundled into the base price.

Data compiled from state Department of Natural Resources, Fish & Wildlife, and Game and Fish Department official websites and recent 2026-dated state licensing guides. Several states (Maryland, Missouri, Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, others) adjusted fees in 2025–2026 — figures reflect the most current published rates at time of compilation. Click any state row for a detail breakdown and a link to its official licensing page. Always verify the current fee with the official state agency before purchasing. Prices change, stamps and surcharges vary, and reciprocity rules differ on shared waters. Last updated: May 12, 2026.
